Assemblymember Michelle RodriguezAssemblymember Michelle Rodriguez is a lifelong resident of the 53rd Assembly District whose life and career reflect a deep commitment to community, family, and public service. Born and raised in Ontario, she is a proud mother and grandmother who has dedicated her life to supporting her community while raising four children, each of whom followed her example of service. Her children, raised in Pomona, have built careers as a deputy sheriff, retail store manager, EMT/firefighter, and respiratory therapist. Michelle’s grandchildren are also growing up in the district, continuing her family’s deep roots in the region.

Together with her husband, former Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez has exemplified a lifelong dedication to service. While raising her family, she worked in local public schools and healthcare, led a Girl Scout troop, served as an athletic director for community sports leagues, and supported young mothers at Valley View High School. She earned her Medical Assistant Certification from Northwest College and built a career in healthcare with Inter Valley Health Plan and ProMed Healthcare Administrators. She also served as a security professional with Chaffey and Bonita Unified School Districts, further reinforcing her commitment to student safety and community well-being.

As a former member of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), and mother of a sheriff’s deputy, Assemblymember Rodriguez brings firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by law enforcement officers. She has prioritized efforts to improve training, accountability, and working conditions for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day. Her legislative work includes advancing transparency measures that allow POST to more efficiently certify and decertify peace officers, strengthening trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

She has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to working class families and public safety. A central focus of her work has been making communities safer through thoughtful, solution-oriented legislation. She has advanced public safety measures aimed at combating prostitution and human trafficking, helping spark important conversations about protecting individuals exploited through sex work while strengthening community safety.

Assemblymember Rodriguez has also authored landmark legislation to protect law enforcement canines. Assembly Bill 463 authorizes emergency medical technicians to transport police canines injured in the line of duty, ensuring these service animals receive timely, lifesaving care and the respect they deserve.

In addition to public safety, Assemblymember Rodriguez is committed to easing the cost of living and delivering practical, everyday solutions for Californians. Her legislative efforts include Assembly Bill 943, which modernizes insurance prelicensing education, and Assembly Bill 391, which allows mobilehome residents to receive residency law contracts electronically, increasing accessibility and convenience.

Despite California’s challenging budget environment, Assemblymember Rodriguez has also delivered critical investments for her district. In 2025, she successfully fought for state funding to support the Chino Valley Firefighters, securing resources to modernize infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, enhance cybersecurity protections, and further ensure firefighter safety.

As a survivor of gun violence, a Neighborhood Watch organizer, and a dedicated public servant, Michelle draws on lived experience, compassion, and resolve to her work in the Legislature. She remains honored to serve the 53rd Assembly District and is committed to continuing her fight for safer neighborhoods, stronger communities, and greater opportunity for all.

In the California State Assembly, Assemblymember Rodriguez serves in a leadership role as Assistant Majority Whip and sits on several key standing committees, reflecting her broad policy expertise and commitment to public service. She is a member of the Banking and Finance Committee; the Governmental Organization Committee; the Insurance Committee; the Economic Development, Growth, and Household Impact Committee; the Public Employee and Retirement Committee; the Revenue and Taxation Committee; and the Assembly Rules Committee.
